About
Mvfasta

Yvan King "Mvfasta" Mukunzi is a multidisciplinary artist working across photography, film, music, and mixed media, all aimed at exploring the depths of identity, oppression, inherited trauma, and the quest for belonging. Born into a Rwanda marked by censorship and the aftermath of the 1994 Genocide, these themes have deeply resonated with him throughout his life.
His artistic journey serves as a personal odyssey, aiming to unearth his own identity while fostering crucial dialogues about these complex issues, both in Rwanda and abroad. As a founding member of the creative collective Antik Dust, he actively contributes to shaping the artistic landscape in Rwanda.
Mvfasta's filmography explores marginalized narratives, capturing diverse cultural landscapes and untold African stories. From the documentary "Hidden Treasures: Gang Redefined" (2019), uncovering the under-explored vibrant Rwandan music scene, to the thought-provoking short drama "God Forbid" (2023), challenging faith and inspecting rebellion in rural Kenya, he fearlessly ventures into uncharted storytelling.
